BIG STORY
Maroons Open the Series With a 6-4 Win
Playoff hockey brought the noise back to Chatham on Sunday night.

The Chatham Maroons knocked off St. Thomas 6-4 in Game 1, giving the home side an early edge in the series and giving local hockey fans exactly what they wanted — goals, energy, and a reason to talk playoffs before coffee.

One game doesn’t win a series, but it’s a strong start — and Memorial Arena got the kind of Sunday night buzz this town knows well.

POLICE BRIEFS
Major Drug Raid and Weekend Arrests Across CK
Police say a Webb Street drug raid led to the arrest of a 58-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man after officers seized a large quantity of fentanyl and cocaine, a loaded handgun, and cash.

Investigators say the seizure included roughly $498,000 worth of controlled substances, making it one of the bigger local drug stories of the week.

In a separate March 12 release, police also reported a package theft investigation tied to Lacroix Street and charges in a criminal harassment case involving repeated unwanted messages sent to a Chatham woman.

Bottom line: it was a busy few days for CK police, and officers clearly were not short on paperwork heading into Monday.
