A Chilly St. Paddy’s Day: Grab the Scarf Before the Green Beer
Happy St. Patrick's Day, Chatham-Kent! ☘️

The luck of the Irish didn't bring us much warmth today. It’s a brisk morning as we head into a busy Tuesday of local events and a major day in court for the Dresden community.

❄️ Today: Cold and breezy with scattered flurries. High of -3°C. 🌬️ The Wind: Expect 30 km/h gusts making it feel more like -10°C. 🌤️ Tomorrow: The sun returns with a much-needed high of 2°C.

The Outlook: It's a "stay inside with some Irish Stew" kind of day. If you are heading to the Legion or downtown, watch for slippery patches on the sidewalks as those flurries move through!
Dresden landfill court fight

BIG STORY
Dresden Landfill Fight Moves to Court
This is the first court appearance in a major legal fight over a proposed waste facility near Dresden. The case heads to Superior Court in Chatham today.
The company behind the project says it should not need local approval to move forward. The Municipality and many residents disagree, saying the community should have a say in any large development like this.
Concerns include traffic, road safety, and the possibility of hundreds of trucks moving through Dresden each day. Today’s hearing focuses on legal timelines, but it marks an important step in the process.
The outcome could help decide how much control communities like Chatham-Kent have over projects like this in the future.
Why it matters: This is about local control — protecting roads, property values, and the future of the community.

POLICE BRIEFS & SAFETY
A Wallaceburg arrest, vehicle theft warning, and a busy weekend for police
• Wallaceburg attempted murder arrest
Chatham-Kent Police say a 36-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a stabbing on Murray Street last Friday. Investigators say the victim and accused were known to each other, and police are not looking for any other suspects.

• Toyota and Lexus theft warning
Police are warning owners of newer Toyota Highlanders and Lexus RX vehicles about a rise in thefts using “relay” technology. Thieves can capture key fob signals from inside homes, so officers are encouraging residents to keep keys in a Faraday pouch or metal box, and away from the front door.

• Weekend recap: 165 calls for service
It was a busy March 13 to 15 for local officers, with 165 calls for service across the municipality. Police highlighted the major Webb Street drug seizure, a weapons arrest involving a loaded handgun, and several impaired driving charges.

With St. Patrick’s Day celebrations underway, police say R.I.D.E. programs will be active across Chatham-Kent.
