Weather: About as good as it gets for a long weekend. Sunny all day — 15° this morning, climbing to 25° (feels 28°) this afternoon, and staying mainly clear into the evening at 21°. Overnight settles at 16°. If you've got outdoor plans this weekend (and there are plenty below), this is the forecast for it.

Chatham-Kent picked up a P.J. Marshall Municipal Innovation Award at this year's Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference — one of the province's top honours for municipal program innovation. The award recognizes Pathways on Park, the municipality's transitional cabin site for people experiencing homelessness.

The 50-unit site has now completed its first year, and the recognition points to real, measurable movement: residents transitioning out of the cabins and into stable, longer-term housing rather than cycling back onto the street.

This week the mayoral race locked in at seven candidates, with April Colby's filing completing the field. Colby has said a personal experience is what prompted her to run. Council-wide, 86 candidates are now competing for a newly restructured 14-seat council — down from the previous setup — meaning new faces are guaranteed almost everywhere regardless of how the vote breaks.

Not everyone is staying in the ring, though. Ward councillor Morena McDonald announced this week she won't seek re-election, and a separate piece this week pointed to a broader pattern: several councillors cited a genuinely negative political climate as a factor in deciding not to run again.
