💧 Major Story — Chatham Asked to Ease Up on Water Use This Week
The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission is asking Chatham residents to cut back on non-essential water use from August 24 through 28, while crews repair a major water transmission line along Charing Cross Road that feeds the Chatham Water Treatment Plant. Drinking, cooking, and bathing are all still fine — it's things like long showers, car washing, and lawn watering the PUC wants people to hold off on for the week.
The repair is routine maintenance rather than an emergency fix, but the PUC says keeping demand down helps the system handle the reduced capacity while the line is out.

April Colby has filed to run for Chatham-Kent mayor, becoming the seventh and final name on the ballot for the top job this fall on Friday. Her entry closes out what's already shaping up to be a crowded race for council's top seat.
The same day, Ward councillor Morena McDonald announced she won't be seeking re-election. McDonald has held the seat for just over two years, after being chosen to fill the vacancy left by Steve Pinsonneault — meaning her departure opens up another seat for a newcomer to claim this fall.
