📜 This Day in CK History
Emancipation Day is almost here (August 1st) — and Chatham's connection to it runs deep. Back in 1854, Frederick Douglass came to Chatham to take part in local Emancipation Day celebrations, at a time when the city was known across North America as the "Black Mecca" — the northern terminus of the Underground Railroad. Douglass later wrote about seeing formerly enslaved men, women, and children building new lives here as free people.

🔥Police Briefs: Chatham-Kent Police report a 51-year-old Thamesville man was arrested and charged following an assault complaint on Base Line on Monday afternoon (July 27). Police say a woman was grabbed aggressively during a verbal argument, causing bruising. The accused was released with conditions and is due in court October 19. (via Chatham-Kent Police Service)
