Back up from 2022

It was also a crowded ballot. The mayor’s race had seven candidates, including the incumbent and two sitting councillors. Every council seat was contested, and Ward 7 alone had 17 candidates for two seats.

More voters, but a bigger list

This year’s 36,703 ballots beat 2018’s 34,722 by 1,981. But there were 89,987 eligible electors on this year’s list, up from 76,418 in 2018, a jump of 17.8%.

At 2018’s turnout rate, this year’s list would have produced about 40,900 ballots, roughly 4,200 more than were cast.
