Terms of Use

These terms apply to cknow.ca and the CKNow newsletter (together, “CKNow”). By using the website or subscribing, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use CKNow. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

The newsletter

CKNow is a free local newsletter. When you subscribe and tick the consent box, you’re asking us to email you the editions you chose. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing contact@cknow.ca. We may change how often we publish, or pause or stop the newsletter, at any time.

Where our news comes from

CKNow is a roundup. Each edition brings together local stories published by other newsrooms and public agencies, including:

• Chatham Voice
• The Sydenham Current
• The Chatham Daily News
• CK News Today
• Chatham-Kent Police Service
• Municipality of Chatham-Kent

We write short summaries in our own words, name the source, and link to the original so you can read the full story there. The Local News Digest on our homepage shows each outlet’s latest headlines, linking straight to the full story. The original reporting, headlines, and photos belong to those publishers, not to CKNow. We aren’t affiliated with or endorsed by any of them, and our summaries don’t necessarily reflect their views.

If you publish one of these sources and want a story credited differently, corrected, or removed from CKNow, email contact@cknow.ca.

Our events page combines CKNow’s own events roundup with events published on the public community calendars of CKXS FM and Chatham-Kent Arts + Culture. For calendar listings, we show each event’s name, time, place, and price, and link to the original listing for details. Event information belongs to its organizers, and details can change, so please confirm with the organizer before you go.

Accuracy and election information

Summaries are only as accurate as the reporting and records they’re based on, and details can change after a story is published. We work to get things right, but mistakes happen. For the complete and most current version of a story, follow the link to the original source.

CKNow is not an official source of election information. Candidate lists, ward boundaries, voting places, dates, and hours can change. Before you vote, confirm the details with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. Distances in the voting place lookup are straight-line estimates, not travel routes.

If you spot an error, email contact@cknow.ca and we’ll correct it.

Independence

CKNow is independent. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the Chatham-Kent Police Service, the news outlets we summarize, or any candidate, party, or campaign. Our candidate tracker lists every certified candidate in the same format, based on public filings, and does not rank, rate, or endorse anyone.

Sponsors and advertising

CKNow may include paid sponsorships. Sponsored content is clearly labelled, and sponsors don’t decide what we report. A sponsor appearing in CKNow is not an endorsement of their products or services by us.

Using the site

You agree not to:

• Use automated tools to scrape the site or send large volumes of lookups or signups.
• Interfere with the site’s security or operation, or try to access data that isn’t yours.
• Subscribe someone else without their permission.
• Use CKNow for anything unlawful.

We may block access that breaks these rules.

Our content

Our own summaries, original writing, and design belong to CKNow. You’re welcome to share links and quote short passages with credit to CKNow. Please don’t republish full newsletters without permission.

Stories we summarize remain the property of their original publishers. To reuse their reporting, headlines, or photos, ask them directly.

Public data — such as candidate filings, ward boundaries, and voting places from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent — belongs to its original sources and is used under their terms.

Links to other websites

We link to candidate campaigns, government sites, businesses, and other sources for your convenience. We aren’t responsible for their content or practices, and a link isn’t an endorsement.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

CKNow is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, CKNow isn’t liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the website or newsletter, or from relying on its content — including missing or incorrect election information. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Ontario consumer protection law that can’t be waived.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll let subscribers know by email. Continuing to use CKNow after an update means you accept the new terms.
