Morning, CK, and happy Friday. A fire that made headlines got a clean resolution, a huge investment story got some welcome clarity, and CrowFest is underway. Here's the week that was.
📣 CK Spotlight
154 Semenyn Avenue, Unit 24, Chatham
Courtesy of Bridget Blonde, REALTOR®, Nest Realty Inc. Brokerage
Bridget Blonde has a new listing in Chatham built for exactly the kind of homeowner who's done with stairs and yard work. This ranch-style end-unit townhouse gives you a little extra light and yard space, plus a double car garage so January mornings don't start with a windshield scraper. Inside, everything you need is on one floor: a bright living room with a gas fireplace and deck access, an eat-in kitchen with plenty of cabinetry, and a primary suite with a walk-in closet and 4-piece ensuite, plus main-floor laundry.
Here's the part worth knowing: the finished basement adds a large family room, a den perfect for a home office, and a third full bathroom — real extra living space, not just storage. And a $100/month association fee covers snow removal and lawn care, so two of the biggest homeownership chores are simply handled.
⛽ Gas & ☀️ Weather
Gas: Prices around Chatham range from 169.3¢ at Shell (100 Junction Ave) up to 171.5¢ at UPI Energy today. Check today's cheapest stations on GasBuddy →
Weather: A calm end to the week. Morning starts cool at 14° and mainly sunny. Afternoon warms to 23° (feels 25°), still mainly sunny. Evening cools to 17° and turns partly cloudy. Overnight settles at 14°.
🔥 Major Story — Ethanol Plant Fire Extinguished, Believed Caused by Lightning
The large fire that closed part of Bloomfield Road earlier this week has been extinguished. Fire and Rescue believes lightning struck the Greenfield Global ethanol plant, sparking the blaze. Crews confirmed no air quality impact to the surrounding community, and cleanup and environmental assessment work is now underway at the site.
Why it matters to CK: A fire at an industrial site always raises real questions about safety and air quality — getting a clear "no impact" confirmation, plus a straightforward cause, is exactly the kind of follow-through this story needed.
💼 Major Story — Canadian Energies Clarifies: No Data Centre in the $1.9B Project
Canadian Energies has publicly clarified that a data centre is not part of its proposed $1.9 billion clean-energy manufacturing project for Chatham-Kent, addressing concerns that had circulated since the project was first announced. Separately, the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce says it's excited about the potential economic impact if the project moves forward.
Why it matters to CK: Big investment announcements often come with more questions than answers early on. Getting a direct, specific clarification this fast is a good sign the company is willing to actually engage with community concerns rather than let speculation fill the gap.
