Friday Briefing: OPP needs your help, plus a new grocery store and this weekend's guide

Happy Friday, Chatham-Kent! It's been a heavier news week than usual — a case out at Moraviantown that police are asking the public to help with, and a landfill story worth paying attention to if you're a homeowner. There's also a new grocery store and, a golf tournament for a great cause. Let's get into it. 👇

35 Home Place — one-floor living, done right

Courtesy of Bridget Blonde, REALTOR®, Nest Realty Inc. Brokerage

Bridget Blonde has a new listing in Chatham built for exactly the kind of homeowner who's tired of stairs and yard work. The main floor works with you — handles and rails right where you need them — with two bedrooms up, a third down, and three full baths including a primary ensuite. The double attached garage means no more scraping windshields in January.

Here's the part worth knowing: the $150/month maintenance fee covers the roof, snow removal, and lawn care, so the two chores most people dread are simply handled. No rear neighbours, a private deck, and a street where neighbours actually gather.

Open house Sunday, August 16, 1–3 PM. View the full listing →

⛽ Gas & ☀️ Weather

Gas: Prices range from 151.9¢ at Esso (410 Queen St) up to 154.7¢ at Petro-Canada (93 Park Ave E). Shop around — a few cents difference across town today.

Weather: A beautiful Friday ahead. Morning starts mild at 22° (feels 26°) with a mix of sun and cloud — 30% chance of a passing shower. Afternoon climbs to 27° (feels 35°) and turns mainly sunny, just 20% rain risk. Evening cools to 24° with partly cloudy skies, and it settles into a comfortable 18° overnight. Great day to get outside before the weekend.

🚨 OPP Seeks Public's Help After Sudden Death at Moraviantown

The Ontario Provincial Police are asking anyone with information to come forward after a Chatham-area resident died following an incident at Delaware Nation at Moraviantown. According to police, the person was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries on Saturday, July 25, and later died from those injuries. Middlesex County OPP has been leading the investigation since.

Weeks later, few details about what actually happened have been made public, and investigators say they need the community's help to move the case forward. No arrests or cause of death have been announced.

🗑️ Proposed Dresden Waste Facility Could Fill CK's Landfill Within a Decade

A newly proposed waste-processing facility near Dresden is raising concerns about how much longer Chatham-Kent's landfill can keep going. Early estimates suggest that if the project is approved as planned, the municipal landfill could reach capacity in under 10 years — well ahead of current projections without it.

The proposal is still working its way through review, and it's not yet clear what pushback or conditions it'll face from the municipality. But the accelerated timeline alone has residents and officials paying closer attention to CK's long-term waste plans.
