Good morning, Chatham-Kent. A new grocery store just opened in Chatham, a historic treaty anniversary is being marked next month, and the Barnstormers are back on track. Here's your Thursday. 👇
⛽ Gas & ☀️ Weather
Gas: Petro-Canada (3 Grand Ave W) cheapest at 151.3¢ — tied with Shell on Junction Ave. Petro-Canada (93 Park Ave E) 151.4¢, UPI Energy 151.5¢, Esso & Mobil 151.7¢. Prices holding steady all week.
Weather: A much better day after four straight days of storm warnings. Morning starts cool at 19° (feels 20°) with a mix of sun and cloud — only 20% rain chance. Afternoon climbs to 26° (feels 33°) with just 30% chance of showers. Evening stays mainly cloudy at 24°, clearing overnight to 18°. Enjoy it — this is the best weather day of the week.
🛒 Major Story — Ricco Cash and Carry Opens in Chatham
A new wholesale-style grocery store called Ricco Cash and Carry has opened in Chatham, giving locals another option for groceries and expanding the local retail landscape. The store follows a cash-and-carry model — think bulk buying, competitive pricing, and a wide selection of food products.
Why it matters to CK: With grocery costs top of mind for most families, a new wholesale-style option in Chatham is welcome news. Competition helps prices, and another local grocery option means more choice for CK shoppers who don't want to drive to Windsor or London for bulk buying.
🪶 Major Story — Walpole Island First Nation to Mark 230th Anniversary of Treaty of St. Anne's Island

Walpole Island First Nation is hosting a public Treaty Day celebration on August 30 to commemorate the 230th anniversary of the Treaty of St. Anne's Island — a significant moment in the history of this region and its Indigenous people.
The event is open to the public and will include cultural programming and community celebration. The Treaty of St. Anne's Island has deep roots in the Chatham-Kent area, and this milestone anniversary is worth knowing about.
Why it matters to CK: Walpole Island First Nation is part of our community and its history is CK's history. The 230th anniversary of a treaty that shaped this region is a meaningful occasion — and an open public event is a chance for all CK residents to learn and participate.
