Morning CK! Sorry I missed two days, but I'm back on track now.Overnight storms knocked out power in Tilbury, there's a delay on the Dresden landfill front, and a local cyclist's fundraising ride deserves a shoutout. Here's Thursday.
⛽ Gas & ☀️ Weather
Gas: Prices around Chatham range from 168.4¢ at Mobil (791 St Clair St) up to 179.9¢ at Pioneer today. Check today's cheapest stations on GasBuddy →
Weather: Another round of strong storms on the way — afternoon hits 29° but feels like 40°, with a 60% chance of rain bringing 5-10mm and continued strong thunderstorm risk. Evening cools slightly to 24° (feels 32°) but the rain picks up, with 10-15mm possible and storms still likely. Overnight settles at 21° with a 70% chance of lighter rain. Given this morning's outages in Tilbury, don't be surprised if tonight's storms cause more — keep those flashlights handy.
⚡ Major Story — Power Restored in Tilbury After Overnight Storms
Storms swept through the region early Thursday morning, knocking out power for Entegrus and Hydro One customers in Tilbury and surrounding areas. Crews have been working to restore service, with power slowly coming back online through the morning.
Why it matters to CK: This is the storm risk we flagged earlier this week playing out in real terms — a good reminder to keep flashlights and phone chargers handy through the rest of this unsettled stretch of weather.
🗑️ Major Story — Dresden Landfill Hearing Postponed to November
The public hearing on the proposed Dresden landfill and waste processing facility has been pushed from later this month to November, delaying the community consultation process on the project.
Why it matters to CK: For a project this contentious, a delay cuts both ways — more time for residents to prepare their case, but also more time living with the uncertainty. Worth marking November on your calendar if this is one you're following closely.
